The Nigerian troops, in partnership with the Department of State Services ( DSS ) of the 63 Brigade, have intercepted a truck carrying over 160,000 live cartridges in Anambra State.
Following credible information received by the security operatives, the dramatic bust occurred on 29 May 2025, along Asaba – Onitsha expressway, where a suspect simply identified as Emeka Omenife, who was transporting the deadly cargo was apprehended.
It was noted that Omenife was immediately handed over to the DSS for further explanation. During interrogation, he affirmed to be part of an international ammunition trafficking syndicate that moves weapons from Ghana to Nigeria.
Following the confession by Omenife, the troops swift into further action and nabbed another suspect identified as Uchenna Obiora at Onitsha – Akwa tollgate on 30 May 2025, as he waited the delivery of the deadly weapons.
The swift operation by the Nigerian security operatives led to the interception of the truck conveying the massive cache of ammunition, which had become fully canceled to avoid detection.
However, the Nigerian authorities have vowed to continue cracking down on arms trafficking networks threatening the peace and security of the nation.
