North-East APC Support Groups Reaffirm Loyalty, Endorse Dogara for 2027 VP Slot After Gombe Meeting
GOMBE, Nigeria – The North-East Coalition of APC Support Groups has declared unwavering loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its national leadership following a two-day strategic meeting held in Gombe State.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the coalition expressed full confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and other party leaders. The groups reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening unity and consolidating the party’s dominance across Nigeria’s North-East region.
Dogara Endorsed for 2027 Vice Presidential Slot
A major highlight of the gathering was the coalition’s endorsement of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, as the preferred candidate for the Vice Presidential position in the 2027 general elections. According to the support groups, Dogara’s experience, cross-regional appeal, and inclusive leadership style make him a formidable and unifying figure capable of strengthening the APC’s national ticket.
The coalition believes Dogara’s emergence would enhance regional representation and address rising concerns over perceived marginalization of certain segments of the North-East in the current administration.
Criticism of Divisive Politics
The coalition also criticized what it described as the activities of a “Pro-Arewa Group,” accusing the faction of promoting divisive interests that undermine party cohesion and national unity. The support groups cautioned against any political maneuvers that could derail the collective vision of the APC.
Infrastructure Demands
The meeting called on the federal government to prioritize the completion of key infrastructure projects in the region, particularly the Akwanga–Gombe Road. The coalition emphasized that the road is vital for economic connectivity between the North-East and the Federal Capital Territory, and would spur development across several underserved communities.
Rising Political Tensions
The meeting comes at a time of growing unease within the APC’s North-East bloc. Recent internal disputes have centered around Vice President Kashim Shettima’s exclusion from regional endorsements and speculation about his political future. Earlier in June, a controversial endorsement event in Gombe turned chaotic when local party chairmen were reportedly forced out by security personnel for opposing Shettima’s sidelining.
Despite the tensions, the North-East Coalition has urged party members to put national interest above personal ambition as the 2027 elections approach.
