Abuja, Nigeria — In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, members of a newly formed coalition have formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their unified platform, naming Distinguished Senator David Mark as the National Chairman and former Osun State Governor, H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, as the National Secretary.

The decision, announced during a high-level meeting in Abuja, signals a strategic realignment of opposition forces aiming to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.

“Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first,” Peter Obi stated on his verified Facebook account

The move, according to stakeholders, was reached after “deep reflection” on the country’s current state and the urgent need for transformation. The coalition emphasized the importance of unity across political, ethnic, and ideological lines, stressing that no single group can effect lasting change in isolation.

“To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls — even when those bridges are uneasy,” the statement added.

Reacting to the announcement, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi endorsed the coalition’s direction, stating: “A New Nigeria is Possible.”

With the ADC now positioned as a rallying point for the coalition, the stage is set for a robust political contest as Nigeria heads toward a critical election season.
