Daniel Bwala, spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, has claimed that Peter Obi has dropped his presidential ambition in favor of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Bwala made the remarks during a media briefing on Monday, revealing alleged internal arrangements within the newly-formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
According to Bwala, Obi has been sidelined and is now being considered for the vice-presidential ticket, a position he is reportedly competing for with former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. He further claimed that Obi has been appointed as the Director-General of the ADC campaign, with a future promise of the presidency if Atiku serves only one term.
“Peter Obi is now a non-issue. He’s a non-starter,” Bwala said. “He has handed over his presidential aspiration to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Now, he’s left to battle with Amaechi for the VP slot. From what we’ve gathered, he’s also been offered the role of campaign Director-General, with a verbal assurance that he’ll succeed Atiku after one term.”
The ADC coalition, which includes Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi, has been positioned as a broad alliance aimed at mounting a formidable challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.
While the coalition has yet to officially confirm Bwala’s assertions, the comments suggest significant behind-the-scenes political maneuvering as the 2027 presidential race begins to take shape.
