Police Arraign Two Men in Ekiti Over Alleged Theft of Cow and Pickup Van

Defendants charged with unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.

 

The men of Nigerian police, Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned two men, Ojo Awe, 45, and Bello Taofeeq, 30, before the Chief Magistrate Court in the Ado-Ekiti District for allegedly stealing a live cow and a pickup truck.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, that the incident occurred in the early hours of September 9, around 1:35 a.m., within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District.

According to him, the defendants were found in possession of one live cow and a Ford pickup van with registration number BDU 632 ZB, which were reasonably suspected to have been stolen. He noted that the alleged offence contravenes Section 345 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, which prescribes punishment for unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.

 

Counsel to the defendants, Mr. Olusoji Oladele, pleaded with the court to grant his clients bail, assuring that they would not abscond if released.

 

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦200,000, with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to provide evidence of tax payment as part of the bail conditions.

 

The case has been adjourned to October 28, 2025, for further hearing.
