Police Arrest 20 Amotekun Operatives Over Osun Community Killings
Federal Police team from Abuja seals off Amotekun bases in Osogbo and Ile-Ife amid ongoing probe into Akinlalu killings.
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested twenty operatives of the Osun State Amotekun Corps in connection with the recent killings in Akinlalu, a community in Ife North Local Government Area of the state. The arrests were carried out on Wednesday by a special squad deployed from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
According to reports, the operatives were picked up at two separate locations — the Oke Fia Osogbo Operational Base and the Ife Central Division office in Ile-Ife. The police team reportedly stormed the facilities without prior notice, apprehending the personnel present on duty.
Following the arrests, the police sealed off both premises, preventing further access to the Corps’ operational offices. Sources revealed that the move is part of an ongoing investigation into the violent clash in Akinlalu that left several residents dead and properties destroyed last week.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement detailing the cause of the incident or confirming then number of casualties, but the police’s decisive action signals the seriousness of the probe.
Meanwhile, tension remains high in parts of the state as residents call for transparency and justice in the investigation to uncover those responsible for the tragic killings.
