The Osun State Police Command has apprehended eight individuals in connection with the gruesome attack and attempted ritual killing of a 16-year-old boy in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Monday in Osogbo. According to him, the incident occurred on July 26 at about 4:00 p.m., when three suspects from Apomu town went to cultivate a farmland in the Arademi area of Ikire.
During the farming activity, two of the suspects allegedly lured the teenage victim to a secluded bush, where they reportedly slit open his abdomen in an attempt to harvest vital organs, before cutting off his scrotum. The attackers fled when the boy raised an alarm.
“Police officers, upon receiving the distress call, immediately rushed to the scene, rescued the victim, and rushed him to a hospital for urgent medical attention. He was later referred to the University College Hospital for specialised treatment,” Ojelabi stated.
Further police investigations, he said, led to the arrest of eight suspects linked to the attack. The command assured that all individuals involved would face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
