The Oyo State Government led by Governor Seyi Makinde has reacted to the death of the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC student killed by a triggered Nigerian police officer in Ibadan.
Recall that DAILY OBSERVER had earlier posted a viral video of a student who was shot dead by the police inside his father’s car on the early morning of Tuesday, May 20, 2025, when going for examination. The incident occurred around the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Oyo State government has justified the police action and maintained that the WAEC student was killed because his father, who drove a tinted back Honda Accord car with number FST 639 JU violated the traffice at around 7:30am
According to the Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, Adewale Oyefeso stated that at about 7:45am along the Airport Roundabout, Alakia-Adelunu road, an enforcement team comprising OYTMA officers and personnel of the Oyo State Police Command attempted to stop a black Hinda Accord driven by Odunayo Alade ( father or the late student) who was found to be driving against traffic ( One way ).
It was gathered that in an attempt to nabbed the traffic offender by the policeman, who’s already on the run after the sad incident, he allegedly aimed to shot one of the tyres of the car, which misses the target and hit the 14-year-old student identified as Kehinde Alade.
Following the incident, the victim was immediately rushed to the University College Hospital ( UCH ), where he was pronounced DEAD ON ARRIVAL.
However, the body of the late student has been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
