Lagos Building Collapse: One Dead, 10 Rescued as Search Intensifies for Trapped Victims

Three-storey shopping complex caves in along Old Ojo Road in Alakija, triggering a major emergency response as rescuers race against time.

A tragic building collapse in Lagos has claimed one life and left several others feared trapped after a three-storey shopping complex gave way in the Alakija area on Thursday.

The structure, situated along Old Ojo Road near Alakija Bus Stop off the busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town, reportedly collapsed around 11:40 a.m., sending shockwaves through the bustling neighborhood.

Emergency responders, led by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), swiftly mobilised to the scene, pulling 10 survivors from the rubble. Rescue operations are ongoing as officials work urgently to locate and save those still believed to be trapped beneath the debris.

Authorities have yet to confirm the total number of occupants at the time of the collapse, raising fears that the casualty toll could rise as search efforts continue.
