Super Falcons star says Nigeria would have “made a strong statement” at 2026 tournament as NFF awaits ruling on DR Congo eligibility protest.
Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala believes the Super Eagles would have made a strong statement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico had they secured qualification for the tournament.
The Super Eagles initially missed out on an automatic qualifying ticket for the Mundial before progressing to the African play-offs.
However, their hopes were dashed when they were denied a place in the intercontinental play-offs by DR Congo.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is still holding on to a slim chance of claiming the intercontinental play-off spot, pending FIFA’s decision on a protest alleging that DR Congo fielded ineligible players during last November’s African play-offs.
As Nigerians await the governing body’s verdict, Oshoala reacted to the impressive performances of several Super Eagles players at their respective clubs, insisting the team would have excelled on the global stage given their current form.
“Nigeria would have been on fire at that World Cup. All our boys are in top form this season,” Oshoala said.
FIFA is yet to deliver its ruling on the petition submitted by the NFF regarding the eligibility concerns raised against DR Congo.
