Stolen jeweleries: Former Nigerian President’s Wife, Patience Jonathan Aides Languishes In Prison

Some domestic workers of former Nigerian president, Patience Jonathan, have been enjoying free accommodation in prison for over six years with their trial severally adjourned for 40 times.

According to information, it was noted that the 15 domestic workers were accused of allegedly stealing jeweleries worth over N200 million.

The suspects were nabbed in 2019, and they are being held at the Okaka Custodial Center in Baylesa state.

The defendants who face 18 counts of conspiracy to commit murder, armed robbery, burglary and stealing were accused of allegedly stealing seven gold bangles , five Samsung air conditioners, two sets of upholstery chairs, and six Samsung flat screen televisions.

However, the domestic workers claimed that they were illegally detained without evidence to the alleged crime.

” we have been in prison since e 2019. We were house workers of the former first lady, Patience Jonathan. In the year 2019, there was a case of breaking into one of her apartments in Otuoke, and she decided to arrest all her workers, “one of the defendants said.

The case, in other words, sparked concern about the political influence of powerful Nigerians on the justice system. The house workers’ families and human rights organizations are, however, urging for fair hearing .
