President Tinubu commends emergency responders for swift intervention and urges greater safety measures to prevent future tragedies.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in Tuesday’s tragic fire outbreak at the Afriland Building on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also sympathized with the management and staff of Afriland Properties Limited, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, all of whom were directly affected by the incident.
Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and the injuries sustained, noting that some victims are currently receiving medical treatment. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed souls and a speedy recovery for the injured.
The President also commended the prompt response of emergency agencies, including the Federal Fire Service, first aid workers, medical personnel, and members of the public, whose swift intervention helped reduce the scale of the tragedy. He praised their courage, professionalism, and sense of responsibility during the evacuation exercise.
While consoling the bereaved families, Tinubu called for increased vigilance, better training, and heightened safety consciousness to prevent future tragedies of such magnitude.
He assured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to strengthening emergency response systems and ensuring stricter enforcement of safety standards in public and private buildings nationwide.
