A wave of shock and grief swept through the quiet village of Camp-Ithier, Flacq, Mauritius, on Saturday, June 14, 2025, after a 35-year-old bricklayer was found dead by suicide in his home.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the man’s mother was the one who discovered his lifeless body hanging by a rope in her room. The other end of the rope was tied to the window bars. Emergency services were immediately alerted, but by the time officers arrived, it was already too late.

The body was transported to the Jeetoo Hospital morgue, where an autopsy conducted by Principal Police Medical Officer Dr. Maxwell Monvoisin confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that the deceased had been battling drug addiction—an issue that may have contributed to his tragic decision.

This incident has left the Camp-Ithier community in mourning, as friends and neighbors try to come to terms with the loss and console the devastated family.
