Renowned filmmaker and media mogul Tyler Perry is facing serious allegations of sexual assault from actor Derek Dixon, best known for his role in the BET drama The Oval. The claims stem from a civil lawsuit recently obtained by members of the press, marking a significant development in Perry’s otherwise guarded personal life.
According to court filings, Dixon alleges that Perry first approached him in 2019 during a public event, where the director reportedly requested his phone number and hinted at potential acting opportunities. Their communication, Dixon claims, eventually led to an invitation to Perry’s Atlanta residence in January 2020.
The lawsuit details an alleged incident that took place during this visit. Dixon says he consumed an excessive amount of alcohol and passed out in a guest room. He accuses Perry of entering the room while he was unconscious, climbing into bed beside him, and inappropriately touching his thighs. Though Dixon claims he rejected Perry’s advances, the filmmaker allegedly remained undeterred.
Shortly thereafter, Dixon was cast in The Oval. However, the actor claims that Perry continued to pursue him inappropriately, sending sexually suggestive text messages. According to the lawsuit, Perry allegedly made explicit inquiries about Dixon’s sexual preferences and disclosed that he engages in sexual relationships with men.
Dixon also recounts a second trip to Atlanta, where he claims the situation escalated. During this visit, Perry allegedly initiated an intense conversation about sexual dominance, asking Dixon if he “likes it rough in bed.” The suit further alleges that Perry physically grabbed Dixon by the throat and remarked, “Look how excited you just got.” Dixon says he immediately pushed Perry away, ending the encounter.
As of now, Perry has not responded publicly to the allegations. The lawsuit has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, prompting discussions around power dynamics and abuse in professional spaces.
This remains a developing story.
