VP Kashim Shettima to Lead Nigeria’s Delegation at 80th UN General Assembly in New York

On President Tinubu’s directive, Nigeria’s Vice President will deliver the national statement, attend climate and housing summits, and engage in bilateral talks at the UNGA 2025.

 

 

Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States, from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025, following directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

 

The Vice President is scheduled to join world leaders at the commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations on Monday, September 22, at the UN headquarters. From Tuesday, September 23 to Sunday, September 28, he will participate in high-level general debates alongside other global dignitaries.

On behalf of President Tinubu, VP Shettima is set to deliver Nigeria’s national statement on Wednesday, September 24, between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM (New York time), highlighting the country’s positions on global peace, security, and sustainable development.

 

In addition, the Vice President will attend a special UN event on Climate for Heads of State and Government, hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the same day from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. During the summit, Nigeria is expected to announce its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

 

VP Shettima will also take part in the high-level roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing, hosted by the President of Kenya on September 24, and engage in several bilateral meetings and official events aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s international partnerships.

 

Following the UNGA engagements, the Vice President will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for a scheduled meeting with Deutsche Bank officials before returning to Nigeria.

 

This mission underscores Nigeria’s commitment to active global engagement, climate action, and sustainable development on the international stage.
