Confirming the development in a statement on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said the deceased, 35-year-old Tewogboye Omowumi, was engaged in a heated argument with Bosede over the payment for tomatoes and pepper.

According to Olushola, the disagreement quickly escalated. Bosede allegedly grabbed her sister by the clothes, resulting in Omowumi losing balance and falling to the ground. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

“She was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival,” the police statement read.

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, described the incident as both tragic and unnecessary, emphasizing the dangers of allowing minor quarrels to spiral into violence.

“Disputes, no matter how small, should be resolved through dialogue and not violence. This case shows how avoidable quarrels can end in tragedy,” Lawal said.

He further assured the public that the suspect would be prosecuted accordingly, while reiterating the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring justice in the state.

Police authorities have urged residents to seek peaceful resolution methods in handling domestic and financial disagreements to prevent similar occurrences.
