Governor Charles Soludo’s Chief of Staff narrowly escaped death on Sunday night after gunmen ambushed his convoy while returning from an official assignment.
The Anambra State Government has vowed to apprehend the attackers, who killed two policemen and two civilians during the assault. Officials assured that no stone would be left unturned in tracking down and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Reports indicate that the victims were ambushed and shot dead along the Amansea–Awa–Ufuma Road in Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.
The attack targeted the convoy of Chief Ben Nwankwo, Chief of Staff to Governor Soludo, who had attended a function on behalf of the governor and was returning to Awka when the incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen had laid siege in a nearby bush and opened fire as the convoy approached, sending panic through communities along the route.
In a press statement, the State Commissioner for Information and Value Orientation, Law Mefor, expressed shock over the attack and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.
Mefor added that the police and other security agencies have launched an investigation and are working to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.
