Grenada Grants Visa-Free Access to Nigerians, Targets Investment Boom and Tourism Growth

Caribbean nation unveils bold push for Nigerian investors with planned direct flights and opportunities across key sectors

Grenada is rolling out visa-free access for Nigerians as part of an ambitious drive to attract investors, entrepreneurs, and skilled professionals, while strengthening economic ties between Africa and the Caribbean.

The policy, set to take effect in July, is designed to remove travel barriers and open the door for increased business engagement, educational exchange, and tourism between both regions.

Speaking in Lagos after a working visit to Grenada, the country’s Honorary Consul in Nigeria, Bidemi Sonoiki, said the island nation is positioning itself as a strategic gateway for Nigerians seeking opportunities beyond traditional markets.

According to him, Grenada is emerging as a key link in a growing Africa-Caribbean economic corridor, with strong potential across trade, investment, and innovation.

“Grenada offers a compelling platform for Nigerian investors looking to expand globally. We are building a corridor that supports business growth, tourism, education, and long-term partnerships,” Sonoiki said.

In addition to visa-free entry, discussions are underway to establish direct flights between Nigeria and the Caribbean within six months—a move expected to significantly boost connectivity and unlock new economic opportunities.

Sonoiki described improved air links as critical to deepening trade and investment, noting that easier access would position Grenada as a launchpad for African businesses entering Caribbean markets.

The investment drive spans multiple sectors, including tourism, healthcare, agriculture, agro-processing, logistics, education, fintech, renewable energy, and real estate. It is aimed not only at large corporations but also small businesses and professionals seeking international expansion.

“We want Nigerians to see Grenada as more than a tourist destination. It is a stable, investor-friendly environment with strong long-term potential,” he added.

Since the establishment of Grenada’s Honorary Consulate in Lagos in 2022, bilateral relations have grown steadily, with increased diplomatic engagement and private-sector collaboration. This has also led to the creation of the Nigeria-Grenada Chamber of Commerce.

Known as the “Spice Isle” for its global nutmeg and mace production, Grenada has diversified its economy in recent years, expanding into tourism, education, and financial services, while maintaining a stable political system and business-friendly climate.

As Africa-Caribbean relations gain momentum, Grenada is positioning itself to attract early Nigerian investment, offering access not just to its local market but to the wider
