Liam Rosenior calls for zero tolerance after Vinicius Jr. alleges racial abuse during Champions League clash
Chelsea FC head coach Liam Rosenior has called for lifetime bans for any player, coach, or manager found guilty of racist behavior, insisting that football must leave no room for discrimination. He stressed that anyone who crosses the line should be permanently removed from the sport.
The comments come in the wake of allegations by Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, who claimed he was racially abused by Benfica youngster Gianluca Prestianni during a Champions League match. UEFA has confirmed that it has launched an official investigation into the incident.
Rosenior, who has personally faced racial abuse in his career, emphasized that racism has no place in society, let alone football. He said strong, decisive action is necessary to send a clear message that discriminatory behavior will not be tolerated.
The Chelsea coach urged football authorities, clubs, and governing bodies to adopt tougher sanctions, including lifetime bans, to protect players and ensure a safe environment on and off the pitch. He added that repeated incidents of racism undermine the integrity of the sport.
As UEFA investigates the Vinicius case, Rosenior’s call highlights the growing demand among players and coaches for zero tolerance on racism. His stance is part of a broader push within football to tackle discrimination and hold offenders accountable, once and for all.
