Ortom announces former Cross River governorship contender as sole aspirant after nationwide consultations and voice votes

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed, has formally unveiled Senator Sandy Onor as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, by the Chairman of the PDP Presidential Primaries Collation Committee and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, during the collation and presentation of the primary results.

According to members of the committee, the process followed extensive consultations with party stakeholders across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside voice votes conducted among members nationwide.

Onor, a former Cross River State governorship candidate, emerged as the sole aspirant after declaring his intention to run for president and completing the purchase of his expression of interest and nomination forms earlier in the month.

Addressing party members, Ortom said the committee’s engagements across the country culminated in a unified decision to adopt Onor as the party’s consensus choice ahead of the election.

He subsequently presented Onor as the PDP’s presidential flagbearer for 2027.

The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus, who were present at the venue.

Following the declaration, PDP leaders handed over the party’s flag and a certificate of return to Onor, officially confirming his candidacy.
