ADC Moves Against INEC Chair, Demands Immediate Removal Over Alleged Bias

Party accuses electoral umpire of partisan conduct and constitutional breaches, warns of threat to Nigeria’s democratic credibility

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding the immediate removal or resignation of its Chairman over alleged misconduct and partisan behaviour.

The petition, submitted by the party’s National Secretary and former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, accuses the INEC Chairman of actions that compromise the commission’s neutrality and weaken public trust in the electoral process.

According to the ADC, the petition details what it describes as gross misconduct, including claims of bias in the handling of key electoral decisions. The party argues that such actions undermine the credibility of INEC and pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s multi-party democratic system.

The ADC warned that allowing the situation to persist could erode public confidence in elections and jeopardise the integrity of future polls.

In its submission, the party stressed the importance of strict adherence to constitutional principles, insisting that INEC must remain independent and non-partisan to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections. It also called on relevant authorities to act swiftly to safeguard the nation’s democratic process
