Leadership switch aims to calm internal crisis and steer party toward a decisive national convention ahead of 2027 elections
The leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a dramatic turn, with former Senate President David Mark agreeing to step down as the party’s interim national chairman.
His exit clears the path for ex-party chairman Ralph Nwosu to reclaim control and oversee preparations for the party’s upcoming national convention.
Sources within the party revealed that the decision was a strategic move to ease mounting internal tensions and address legal and regulatory pressures from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The leadership reshuffle is expected to stabilise the party and ensure a smoother convention process.
Nwosu, who had earlier handed over leadership to Mark, now returns at a critical moment to guide the ADC through one of its most turbulent periods. He is tasked with organising a convention aimed at resolving lingering disputes and repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The sudden switch has stirred fresh debate across Nigeria’s political landscape, with observers viewing it as a significant twist in the ADC’s ongoing power struggle and a test of its unity as part of the broader opposition coalition.
