Police say the cleric allegedly abused one of the girls for several years and assaulted her younger sister on two occasions.

A Lagos-based pastor and founder of a church in the Isolo area has been arrested over allegations that he sexually abused two teenage daughters of a church member.

The case followed a petition submitted by the girls’ father on July 28, prompting the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, to direct the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, to investigate the allegations.

According to a police source cited by P.M.News, the allegations involve the petitioner’s two daughters. The older girl was reportedly 13 when the alleged abuse began.

The source alleged that the pastor abused the girl at the church over several years, allegedly continuing until she turned 16 and gained admission to a university.

The allegations reportedly came to light after the pastor allegedly sexually assaulted the younger daughter, who is 14, on two occasions.

Police alleged that the cleric used religious teachings to manipulate the younger girl, a tactic he was also accused of using in relation to her older sister.

Following the alleged incidents, the younger girl reportedly confided in her parents about what had happened. Her disclosure allegedly encouraged her older sister to reveal that she had also been abused by the pastor from the age of 13.

The girls’ father subsequently petitioned the police, leading to the investigation.

The Gender Section of the SCID, Yaba, is handling the case under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the department, Dayo Akinbisehin.

Police sources said the suspect was subsequently arrested and allegedly made statements concerning the accusations during questioning.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said the cleric is expected to be charged before a court after the police conclude their investigations.

The allegations have not been tested in court, and the suspect remains entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
