Senator Francis Fadahunsi denies calling for violence against Accord Party members, insisting his controversial statement was a call to defeat the party at the ballot box.

The senator, however, has rejected the interpretation that he was calling for the physical killing of Accord Party supporters.

In his response, Fadahunsi explained that his reference to “kill Accord” was political language, which he said meant defeating the party at the polls through votes.

He also argued that the viral recording did not capture the full context of his remarks. According to him, he was addressing alleged attacks on members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress and speaking about political competition ahead of the election.

Fadahunsi maintained that he had no intention of encouraging violence or the physical elimination of political opponents.

The police invitation is expected to give authorities an opportunity to establish the circumstances surrounding the senator’s remarks, examine the full video and determine whether his statement constitutes an offence under Nigerian law.

The development has further placed the spotlight on the conduct of political actors as Osun prepares for Saturday’s election.

Security agencies and other stakeholders have repeatedly urged politicians, candidates and their supporters to avoid statements or actions capable of inciting violence before, during and after the poll.
