NCS warns of eroding public trust, vows to involve security agencies as doubts trail viral health claims and donations.

The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has called for a full-scale investigation into social media personality Blessing Okoro, widely known as Blessing CEO, over allegations that she falsely claimed to be battling cancer to solicit financial support from the public.

In a statement issued in Abuja, NCS spokesperson Bashir Mohammed said the organisation is deeply concerned by reports suggesting the health claims may not be genuine, noting that many Nigerians may have been misled into donating under false pretences.

According to Mohammed, emerging details have cast serious doubt on the authenticity of the alleged illness, sparking public outrage and intensifying demands for accountability, including potential refunds for donors and a thorough probe into the matter.

The NCS described the alleged act as highly unethical, stressing that exploiting a life-threatening disease like cancer for personal gain undermines ongoing efforts to support real patients in need.

He warned that such incidents could damage public confidence in legitimate medical fundraising campaigns, ultimately hurting individuals who depend on public goodwill for survival.

The society said it is prepared to collaborate with relevant security agencies to investigate the allegations and ensure appropriate action is taken if any wrongdoing is established.

Mohammed also urged Nigerians to exercise caution when responding to online appeals, advising donors to verify medical fundraising claims through credible platforms, including the NCS, which operates a structured system for patient support and assistance.
