Family members seized at Challenge area as insecurity concerns deepen in Oyo State weeks after mass school abduction
Unknown gunmen have abducted the sister and twin children of former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The victims were reportedly taken in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, at Elewura in the Challenge area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area. The incident has heightened fears over rising insecurity in the state.
Confirming the development, Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, said the former minister’s younger sister and her twin children—identified as Peter and Paul—were attacked while leaving their residence.
“Adelabu’s younger sister, together with her twins, were kidnapped this morning by unknown gunmen at Elewura, Challenge, Ibadan. The family members were heading out to link the express when they were ambushed and taken away,” Awogboro said.
As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the abduction remain unclear, and security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident or any rescue efforts.
The latest attack comes just weeks after suspected terrorists carried out a coordinated assault in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, where more than 45 pupils and their teachers were abducted, further underscoring growing security challenges in Oyo State.
