Athletes praise intense training and strong support as preparations conclude ahead of the Edo-hosted competition

As training routines gradually draw to a close, athletes representing Ondo State at the 2nd Niger Delta Sports Festival in Edo State have expressed confidence in making a strong impact at the Games.

The festival is scheduled to begin on Friday, February 20, with an opening ceremony, while athletes from the nine participating states are expected to arrive on Thursday, February 19.

Athletes who returned to complete the final phase of their camping in Akure, the Ondo State capital, described the atmosphere in camp as serious, focused, and highly motivating.

Temitope, a football player on the team, said the athletes were pleased with the level of organisation and support provided by the State Liaison Committee, noting that training sessions had been intense and productive.

“We train every day, and everyone is taking it seriously. We want to make Ondo State proud and achieve something significant at the Games,” he said.

Another team member, Agbajeola, also praised the camping experience, stating that it helped the athletes settle quickly and boosted morale.

“The opportunity to represent Ondo State is a huge motivation for us. The camp has really helped us come together as a team,” he said.

The Niger Delta Sports Festival is expected to bring together athletes from the nine Niger Delta states, competing across 16 different sports.

The Games are sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and organised by Dunamis-Icon Limited.
