Armed assailants invade Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo during evening service, sparking panic as police launch rescue and manhunt operations.

Gunmen on Tuesday night launched a deadly assault on a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, Ekiti State, killing a pastor and abducting several worshippers during a service.

The attackers reportedly struck around 8:30 p.m., opening fire on the congregation before whisking an undisclosed number of attendees into a nearby forest. The brazen attack threw the community into chaos, with residents fleeing in fear as details of the victims remain unclear.

Confirming the incident, the Ekiti State Police Command said a coordinated rescue operation involving multiple security agencies and local vigilante groups is currently underway to secure the release of those abducted.

Police spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, has ordered a full-scale investigation and intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators.

Authorities have called on residents to remain calm but alert, urging the public to report any suspicious movements. Religious leaders were also advised to notify security agencies ahead of late-night services to enhance safety measures.
