Suspects allegedly plotted attack over disputed fraud proceeds, intercepted while attempting to flee to Togo
Ghana’s Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two Nigerian nationals over the killing of a fellow Nigerian in Tamale, in a case investigators say may be linked to a dispute over illicit proceeds.
The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were picked up following the death of 36-year-old Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze. His body was discovered inside his residence at Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale, on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
According to a statement by the Ghana Police Service, preliminary findings revealed that the deceased shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects, and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor.
Police said they were alerted after a report that the victim had been found unresponsive in his bedroom. Officers who visited the scene observed clear signs of violence, with the room ransacked, indicating a possible struggle.
Investigators recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack, along with other materials now undergoing forensic examination. The body was subsequently conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead before being deposited in the morgue for autopsy.
Authorities said swift, intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the suspects later the same day at Tatale, as they allegedly attempted to escape into neighbouring Togo.
During interrogation, police disclosed that the suspects allegedly confessed to conspiring against the victim, accusing him of withholding proceeds from suspected internet fraud activities.
A follow-up search reportedly led to the recovery of several items believed to have been taken from the victim’s room, including mobile phones, laptops, a tablet, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches, and personal documents. All recovered items have been secured as exhibits.
The suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
