Minister of Works David Umahi tells residents of Ngbo to remain united, saying his influence and financial capacity have increased significantly since leaving office as governor.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged youths and residents of his Ngbo community in Ebonyi State to remain united and ignore what he described as “noise makers,” assuring them of his continued commitment to their development.
Umahi made the appeal while addressing community members during an interaction, where he emphasised that despite his current position at the federal level, he remains deeply connected to his roots.
“You must accept me as one of your own. Don’t listen to noise makers. My capacity is like ten times what it was when I was governor,” the former Ebonyi State governor said.
Highlighting what he described as his expanded influence in government, Umahi told the gathering that his current role has strengthened his ability to deliver results.
“I am very, very dangerous now. Let nobody fall on me because the cost is very dangerous,” he said, a remark that drew applause from the audience.
At intervals, the minister repeatedly asked, “Nnoo nu o?”—an Igbo expression meaning “Are you there?”—as he sought to keep the audience engaged and attentive.
Umahi called on prominent sons and daughters of Ngbo to set aside differences and work together for the progress of the community, stressing that collective effort was essential to attracting development.
“We have the capacity to do good things for the Ngbo people. Come together. Tell your sons and daughters—very illustrious and industrious—to come together. Let them approach me. Whatever is their need, it will be done,” he said.
The minister also spoke about the financial strength of his family, noting that they are capable of supporting major community projects.
“This Umahi family, God has blessed them beyond words. They are capable of funding anything,” he said, adding that family members are always willing to contribute generously to communal initiatives.
“If you ask them to contribute, they will contribute—and they will over-contribute,” Umahi added.
