Oriade LG boss Olubunmi Obeisun under fire as viral video sparks outrage, raises fresh concerns over electoral integrity in Obokun-Oriade constituency
A controversial statement made by the Executive Chairman of Oriade Local Government Area in Osun State, Olubunmi Ezekiel Obeisun, has sparked widespread backlash and renewed concerns over the integrity of the 2027 general elections.
Obeisun, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is facing criticism following remarks he reportedly made while addressing party supporters at a gathering in his house at Obokun-Oriade federal constituency.
In a video circulating on social media, the council chairman was heard speaking in Yoruba about political tensions involving the people of Ijebu-Jesa and the forthcoming House of Representatives election.
“The Ijebu-Jesa people worked against us, and now they want to contest the election. But we will also work against them. You can quote me anywhere—I, Ezekiel Olubunmi Obeisun. If they win, I will rig it,” he was heard saying.
The comment has drawn sharp reactions from opposition figures and political observers, many of whom described it as dangerous and contrary to democratic principles.
Pelumi Olajengbesi, a chieftain of the Accord Party and spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign council, condemned the remark as “criminal and anti-democratic.”
“I have just seen the video of APC’s Olubunmi Obeisun vowing to rig the 2027 House of Representatives poll for Wole Oke and the APC. This is anti-democratic, reckless, criminal, and abominable,” Olajengbesi said.
He further called on security agencies to remain vigilant against any form of political violence, thuggery, or voter suppression in the constituency.
Olajengbesi added that residents of the Obokun-Oriade federal constituency are determined to protect their votes and resist what he described as “imposition politics.”
The controversy has since generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over statements capable of undermining public confidence in the electoral process.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Obeisun nor the Osun State APC leadership has issued an official clarification or response regarding the viral video.
The incident has once again brought to the fore concerns about political rhetoric, electoral integrity, and the need to safeguard credible democratic processes as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.
