Kano Politics: Yusuf, Ganduje Hold Secret Abuja Meeting Over Defections, Emirship Crisis, Deputy Governor Vacancy

Closed-door talks come amid rising political tensions, party defections, and unresolved leadership disputes in Kano State

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his predecessor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, have reportedly held a closed-door meeting in Abuja as part of efforts to address growing political challenges in the state.

The high-level meeting, which took place away from public scrutiny, is said to have focused on key issues including recent defections from their party, the lingering emirship dispute, and the unresolved vacancy in the office of the deputy governor.

The development comes amid heightened political tension in Kano, with shifting alliances and internal disagreements threatening party cohesion ahead of future electoral contests.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ganduje met separately with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where he briefed the president on the evolving political situation in the state. The discussions reportedly centered on the defection of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s 2023 governorship candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, as well as concerns over a potential wave of further defections.

Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that Ganduje expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as inadequate consultation by the presidency on critical party matters in Kano. He reportedly warned that the lack of coordinated engagement could deepen the crisis and weaken the party’s structure in the state.

The meeting between Yusuf and Ganduje is seen as a strategic attempt to ease tensions and find common ground on issues threatening political stability in Kano. However, details of the outcome remain undisclosed, leaving uncertainty over whether the talks will translate into concrete resolutions.
