Legal Storm Hits NDC as Rival Party Seeks Deregistration in Court

All Democratic Alliance official asks court to compel INEC to revoke NDC’s registration over alleged irregularities ahead of 2027 elections

A fresh legal battle has erupted in Nigeria’s political space as the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) faces a court challenge seeking its deregistration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The suit, filed by Ahidjo Karlahi, a protem official of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), questions the legitimacy of the NDC’s recognition as a political party. Karlahi is urging the court to direct INEC to withdraw or cancel the NDC’s registration, citing alleged irregularities in the process that led to its approval.

The case adds to growing controversy surrounding the NDC’s emergence, with some opposition figures accusing INEC of bypassing due process in granting the party official status.

Promoters of the ADA have also claimed that their own application met all constitutional requirements but was denied approval, while alleging that the NDC was granted recognition under questionable circumstances.

In response, NDC leaders have firmly dismissed the allegations, maintaining that the party followed all legal procedures. They insist their registration process dates back to 2017 and was subsequently updated in line with regulatory requirements.

The legal showdown is expected to draw significant political attention, particularly as the NDC has recently gained traction as a key opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
