Oyo governor unveils ambition at PDP–APM unity rally, urges opposition coalition to challenge APC dominance
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, declaring his bid under the platform of the All People’s Movement (APM).
Makinde made the announcement on Thursday at a high-profile unity rally jointly organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APM, marking a strategic alliance between both parties ahead of the next general elections.
In his address, the governor called on opposition leaders across the country to close ranks and form a formidable front against what he described as a calculated attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to steer Nigeria towards a one-party system.
He warned that the country’s democratic structure is under threat, stressing that true democracy can only thrive in an environment where opposition parties are allowed to operate freely without interference or intimidation.
Makinde also urged Nigerians, particularly eligible voters, to move beyond passive political engagement and take an active role in shaping the nation’s future. He expressed confidence that widespread citizen participation could trigger a “historic reset” in 2027 and redefine Nigeria’s political direction.
