NDC Replaces Kwankwasiyya Candidates in Kano Over Alleged Breach of Power-Sharing Deal

Party cites violation of 60–40 agreement, revises Federal and State Assembly ticket list across multiple constituencies

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has replaced several candidates earlier nominated by the Kwankwasiyya faction in Kano State following an alleged breach of a power-sharing agreement within the party.

The decision was contained in a document signed by the Kano State NDC Chairman, Hon. Hussaini Isah Mairiga, and circulated to key stakeholders, including the National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, Kwankwasiyya leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the NDC North-West Zonal Chairman.

According to the party, the changes were made to align with an earlier agreement on the distribution of elective positions and party tickets between the existing NDC structure and the Kwankwasiyya bloc.

The agreement reportedly provided for a 60–40 sharing formula, with the Kwankwasiyya group allocated 60 per cent of positions, while the original party structure retains 40 per cent.

Under the revised list for federal constituencies, the NDC approved new candidates for several seats. They include Barrister Isma’il Idris Sani for Kumbotso, Nasiru Ali Ahmed for Nassarawa, Kabiru Ishaq Sa’id for Kano Municipal, and Barrister Dayyabu Jamilu Ibrahim for Doguwa/Tudun Wada.

Others are Muhammad Hamisu Abubakar for Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado/Tofa, Ibrahim Bashir Bango for Sumaila/Takai, and Abdulmajid Isa Umar Mairigar Fata for Gwale Federal Constituency.

The party also confirmed adjustments to its State House of Assembly tickets in Dala, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo, and Dawakin Kudu constituencies.

While the NDC did not provide detailed reasons for each replacement, it maintained that the restructuring was necessary to enforce the agreed power-sharing arrangement and ensure internal balance within the party’s Kano State chapter.
