The party polled 125 votes against APC’s 85 at the Okuku polling unit of former Osun Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, despite his endorsement of APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.

The Accord Party has recorded a notable victory at the polling unit of former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, in Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the governorship election.

According to the result uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV), Accord secured 125 votes to emerge as the leading party at the polling unit.

The APC came second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled five votes.

The African Action Congress (AAC) recorded two votes, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressive Party (YPP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) each secured one vote.

Several other political parties, including the Action Alliance (AA), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), recorded no votes at the polling unit.

The result sheet showed that 228 voters were accredited, with 220 valid votes cast and eight votes rejected.

Voting and counting took place at Court Hall I, Okuku, in Odo-Otin Local Government Area.

The outcome has attracted attention because of Oyinlola’s recent political position ahead of the election. The former governor, who governed Osun State from 2003 to 2010, had publicly endorsed the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, over the incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ademola Adeleke.

Oyebamiji is contesting the election on the APC platform, making Oyinlola’s endorsement particularly significant given the former governor’s political history and influence in Osun State.

However, despite Oyinlola’s reported support for the APC candidate, the party could not secure the highest number of votes at his polling unit.

Instead, Accord emerged victorious with a 40-vote margin over the APC, in an early result that highlights the competitiveness of the governorship contest across the state.

The result from the polling unit, however, represents only one voting location and does not determine the overall outcome of the governorship election, which will be decided based on results from polling units across Osun State.
