Suspected political thugs storm Idanre during APC ward congress, opening fire and leaving a trail of deaths, injuries, and destruction.
Two people were killed and three others injured after suspected political thugs unleashed gunfire during the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State on Tuesday, February 18, 2026.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants invaded parts of the town, firing shots sporadically and triggering widespread panic as residents and party members fled for safety.
One of the victims was identified as Raphael, the younger brother of the Ondo State APC Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin. He was reportedly mistaken for the party chairman, shot several times, forcibly dragged from his vehicle, assaulted with machetes, and left injured. His vehicle was also set ablaze during the attack.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that five individuals were attacked in total. Two of the victims later died at the hospital, while three others are currently receiving medical treatment.
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, personally led security operatives to the scene to restore calm. Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and additional tactical teams have been deployed across the area to prevent further violence and apprehend those responsible.
