Heavily Armed Militants Strike Bui District; Security Forces Launch Massive Operations to Restore Order
Kebbi State was rocked by a brutal bandit attack on Wednesday, as 33 residents of Bui District in Arewa Local Government Area were killed in a violent assault.
Police spokesperson SP Bashir Usman confirmed that the suspected attackers, believed to be Lakurawa militants, stormed the district with heavy arms, reportedly in an attempt to rustle cattle. Initial investigations suggest the bandits may have entered from Gudu LGA in neighboring Sokoto State.
Communities including Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, Makangara, Kanzo, Gorun Naidal, and Dan Mai Ago reportedly tried to resist the invaders. The confrontation, however, ended in a tragic loss of 33 lives.
In response, the police, alongside the military and other security agencies, have deployed reinforcements and launched targeted operations to secure the area, restore peace, and apprehend the attackers.
SP Usman cautioned residents against engaging armed criminals directly, urging them to report suspicious activities immediately through official security channels, emphasizing that coordinated responses are essential against heavily armed groups.
This attack adds to growing insecurity in Kebbi and neighboring states. Earlier, suspected terrorists reportedly demanded N100 million from a community in Ngaski LGA before they would be allowed to enter to “preach,” sparking fears of more violence.
