Nigeria remain third in Africa behind Morocco and Senegal; Spain slip to second while Argentina sit third globally
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have retained their 26th position in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings released after the March international window.
The three-time African champions saw no movement in the global standings despite mixed results in recent friendly matches, including a 2-1 victory over Iran and a 2-2 draw against Jordan.
On the continental stage, the Super Eagles continue to rank third in Africa, trailing Morocco and Senegal, who maintain their positions as the top two teams on the continent.
Globally, France have climbed to the summit of world football, overtaking Spain to secure the number one spot. Spain dropped to second following a less convincing run of results, while Argentina occupy third place.
France’s return to the top was powered by impressive performances during the international break, recording key wins that boosted their ranking points.
Nigeria’s chances of climbing the rankings in the near term may be limited due to their absence from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reducing opportunities to earn significant points in competitive fixtures.
The next FIFA rankings update is scheduled for June 2026, with potential shifts expected as international competitions gather pace.
