Pochettino Offered USMNT Extension Through 2030 World Cup Amid Impressive Start

U.S. Soccer weighs long-term future of Argentine coach as contract talks remain on hold until after 2026 tournament

U.S. Soccer has reportedly offered United States men’s national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino a contract extension that would keep him in charge through the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The proposed deal comes less than two years after the Argentine tactician took over in September 2024, following high-profile managerial stints at Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea.

However, sources indicate that no final decision regarding his future beyond the 2026 World Cup will be made until the conclusion of the ongoing tournament.

Pochettino has made an immediate impact with the USMNT, guiding the team to the top of Group D in the expanded 48-team World Cup format. This achievement marks only the third time the United States has finished first in its World Cup group.

His strong start has attracted attention both domestically and abroad. The 54-year-old has been linked with a potential return to European club football, including reported interest from AC Milan earlier this year. However, the Italian side has since appointed former Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim.

Despite growing speculation, a U.S. Soccer spokesperson declined to confirm or deny the reported contract offer.

For now, Pochettino’s focus remains firmly on leading the United States through the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with discussions about his long-term future expected to resume after the tournament concludes.
