Gunmen Kill Pregnant Woman, Husband in Fresh Plateau Attack, Leave Twin Babies Orphaned

Fresh violence has erupted in Plateau State after gunmen attacked residents of Angwan Ishaku community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, killing a young couple and injuring two others.

The victims were identified as Mr. Iliya Gyang , 30, and his pregnant wife, Grace Gyang , 25.

The deadly attack reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening at about 5:30 p.m., throwing the community into mourning and raising fresh fears over worsening insecurity in Plateau State.

A resident of the area, Kacholom Ayuba , confirmed the incident, saying the attackers stormed the community and opened fire on residents before escaping.

The Berom Youth Moulders Association also confirmed the killings in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong .

According to the statement, the gunmen arrived on a motorcycle and launched the attack before fleeing through a route leading toward settlements in Fass along the Rakung-Sho road.

The association explained that Iliya Gyang was first attacked while working on his farm close to his residence. His pregnant wife, Grace, was also shot during the attack and died instantly at the scene.

Although the husband was rushed to a hospital after sustaining severe gunshot injuries, he was later confirmed dead.

The tragic incident has left behind one-year-old twin boys, who are now orphaned following the killing of their parents.

Attack Comes Days After Security Meetings in Plateau

The Berom Youth Moulders Association noted that the attack occurred barely two days after Caleb Mutfwang visited Barkin Ladi for a town hall meeting with stakeholders over rising insecurity in the area.

The group also pointed out that the killings happened just a day after the Plateau State Security Council announced fresh security measures to curb ongoing attacks, killings, and destruction of farmlands in several communities.

According to the association, the latest violence shows that criminal elements remain determined to frustrate peace efforts despite interventions by the government and security agencies.

BYM Demands Stronger Security Operations

Describing the killings as “barbaric, wicked, and inhumane,” the youth association called on security agencies to intensify operations in affected communities and identified flashpoints across Plateau State.

The group urged the military and other security operatives to carry out coordinated raids aimed at flushing out criminal gangs responsible for repeated attacks in the region.

The association also appealed to the Plateau State Government to provide urgent support and welfare assistance for the orphaned twin boys left behind by the deceased couple.

It further extended condolences to the grieving families and prayed for strength for the community during the difficult period.
