RCCG pastor’s wife recounts abandoning expensive jewellery and fashion, saying her spiritual conviction left no room for compromise.
Foluke Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has opened up about a striking personal sacrifice she made after embracing Christianity—discarding her expensive gold jewellery in a lagoon.
Speaking candidly, Adeboye said she once enjoyed fashion like many women and had even acquired valuable gold items, including pieces intended for her young child. However, her lifestyle took a dramatic turn after she became born again and joined RCCG, where wearing earrings was discouraged at the time.
According to her, the decision was immediate and absolute.
“The moment we were born again, it was a taboo to wear earrings. So I threw everything into the lagoon,” she said.
She recalled being questioned by a family friend who felt she could have taken a more practical route by giving the jewellery to her mother to sell. But Adeboye remained resolute in her conviction.
“Whatever is not good for me is not good for my mother,” she replied.
Looking back, she expressed no sense of loss or regret over her decision, emphasizing her total commitment to her faith.
“I don’t miss anything, not really, because I have already given my life,” she added.
