Swift intelligence-led operation in Lokoja disrupts planned abduction, as troops recover weapons and ammunition

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade, operating under the 2 Division, have successfully thwarted a planned kidnapping operation in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The mission, executed on May 30, 2026, was launched after credible intelligence revealed that suspected terrorists were mobilising to carry out abductions around Jakura II community.

Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said troops swiftly advanced to a suspected crossing point along the Old Obajana–Tajimi Road. There, they set up a strategic ambush aimed at intercepting the suspects before the plot could be carried out.

Contact was made during the operation, leading to an exchange of fire. One of the suspects was neutralised, while others fled the scene, believed to have sustained gunshot injuries.

A search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 70 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a bandolier, and mobile phones. The Army noted that the cache of weapons further indicated the group’s involvement in kidnapping activities in the area.

Commander of the 12 Brigade, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, praised the troops for their alertness, professionalism, and operational success. He assured residents that sustained efforts would continue to dismantle criminal networks and enhance security across the state.

The Army also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, credible information to security agencies to help prevent future threats.
