A 45-year-old man allegedly linked to a N2.5 million fraud case was arrested with 25 ATM cards and mobile phones, while separate cult-related arrests led to the recovery of three firearms.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Ameachi Anthony, over an alleged N2.5 million fraud and recovered 25 ATM cards, several mobile phones and other items believed to be connected to an ongoing investigation.

Anthony was arrested on September 22, 2026, by operatives of the Igbesa Divisional Police Headquarters following an investigation into the alleged fraud.

According to the police, the discovery of the large number of ATM cards during the arrest raised further suspicions about the activities being investigated.

Preliminary findings indicated that the suspect allegedly operated as part of a scheme involving multiple bank accounts, utility bills and newly registered SIM cards.

The police said the SIM cards were reportedly obtained through associates and used to facilitate the opening of bank accounts, after which the ATM cards were collected for transactions now being examined by investigators.

Following the arrest, Anthony and the recovered exhibits were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The police said detectives are working to establish the full extent of the alleged fraud and determine whether other individuals were involved.

Two Arrested Over Suspected Cult Activity

In a separate development on the same day, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the command arrested a 34-year-old man, Peter Olanrewaju, following intelligence about an alleged cult-related gathering.

Further investigation reportedly led to the arrest of another suspect, 36-year-old Adebayo Sodiq.

Police said one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols were recovered during the investigation.

The suspects are being questioned as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged gathering and how the firearms came into their possession.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operations, describing their actions as evidence of vigilance and professionalism.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the command's commitment to proactive policing and urged officers to sustain efforts aimed at detecting and disrupting criminal activities before they escalate.

The police said investigations into both cases are ongoing.

Authorities are expected to examine the recovered ATM cards, mobile phones and firearms for additional leads that could help establish the identities of other persons who may be connected to the cases.
