Emergency responders swiftly rescue victims and clear traffic as incidents hit Oshodi, Iyana Isolo, and Ikeja corridors

Three separate road crashes occurred across Lagos in the early hours of Saturday, leaving three people injured but with no fatalities recorded, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed.

The incidents were reported at Olupese Bus Stop inward Oshodi, Aswani Bus Stop inward Iyana Isolo, and Oba Ogunji Road in Ikeja, according to a statement by LASEMA’s Head of Public Affairs, Afolabi Olawale.

Emergency responders moved quickly to the scenes, rescuing victims, clearing the wreckage, and restoring normal traffic flow in all affected areas.

The first incident happened around 12:07 a.m. at Olupese Bus Stop when a truck loaded with granite broke down after its rear tyre got stuck in a pothole, blocking traffic inward Oshodi. Preliminary findings linked the incident to the poor state of the road. No injuries were recorded, and LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team diverted traffic before deploying its heavy-duty recovery vehicle, Super Metro, to remove the truck.

Less than an hour later, at about 12:59 a.m., a Toyota Sienna collided with an oncoming truck at Aswani Bus Stop. The impact forced the truck off the road and onto a culvert. Two women and one man sustained injuries and were given immediate medical attention before being transported to a hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

Authorities later recovered both vehicles, handing the truck over to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and releasing the Sienna to officers from the Aswani Police Station.

A third accident occurred around 1:19 a.m. on Oba Ogunji Road in Ikeja, involving a Ministry of Environment concrete mixer truck and a Volkswagen bus. Officials said excessive speeding by the bus driver caused the collision. No injuries were reported, and responders carried out on-site repairs before removing the vehicles from the road.

Reacting to the incidents, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the coordinated efforts of emergency agencies and reiterated the state government’s commitment to road safety.

“The Sanwo-Olu administration maintains zero tolerance for loss of life on our roads. The swift collaboration between LASEMA, LASAMBUS, LASTMA, and the police ensured these incidents were handled with minimal disruption,” he said.

He also urged motorists to avoid speeding and to report damaged roads, stressing that responsible driving remains essential in preventing avoidable accidents.
