Local Government Inspector Abass Olalekan faces interrogation over the death of Victoria Ariyo, as authorities probe a deadly pattern of misconduct.
Abeokuta, Nigeria – A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) official in Ogun State is behind bars, accused in the tragic death of a female corps member following a complicated abortion.
Abass Olalekan, the Local Government Inspector (LGI) for Abeokuta South, was arrested by state police after 24-year-old corps member Victoria Ariyo died on Tuesday. Her body was reportedly buried at Kobape Cemetery along the Kobape-Sagamu Road.
Sources allege a dark romantic entanglement between the supervisory official and the deceased—claiming their relationship resulted in a pregnancy and a fatal termination attempt.
The arrest has ignited outrage, coming just one month after another corps member, Adeleye Mary, also serving in Abeokuta South, died under similarly mysterious circumstances.
A police source confirmed Olalekan is currently detained at the state command headquarters in Eleweran. “An official dating a corps member under his watch is grossly improper,” the source stated, underscoring the power dynamics at the center of the investigation.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that Ariyo’s death is now under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), though he declined to comment on the specifics of the arrest.
As of press time, the NYSC state office has remained silent on the matter.
