Tinubu Condemns Plateau, Kaduna Attacks, Orders Security Crackdown on Killers and Kidnappers

President decries “cowardly” assaults in Jos and Kagarko, vows swift justice, warns against misinformation and reprisals

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent wave of violent attacks in Plateau and Kaduna states, describing the incidents as “barbaric” and a direct assault on Nigeria’s unity and values.

In a statement issued Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President denounced the killings in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, Plateau State, as well as the deadly attack and abduction of wedding guests in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Tinubu characterized the attackers as “heartless cowards” who target vulnerable communities under the cover of darkness, warning that such acts are designed not only to inflict harm but also to incite retaliatory violence and deepen instability.

“These attacks are an affront to all that Nigeria stands for. Those responsible will not go unpunished,” the President stated.

He directed security agencies to intensify efforts to track down and apprehend the perpetrators, while also cautioning against the spread of misinformation that could inflame tensions. The President specifically warned against narratives suggesting religious motives behind the attacks, urging the media and the public to act responsibly.

Tinubu emphasized that security forces are actively responding to the situation and called on citizens to cooperate with authorities, particularly by adhering to evacuation and safety directives where necessary.

He also urged security agencies to adopt a more proactive approach by acting on early warning intelligence to prevent future incidents. The President ordered the immediate rescue of all remaining abductees from the Kaduna attack, while welcoming the safe return of two victims.

Commending the efforts of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and his Kaduna counterpart, Governor Uba Sani, Tinubu praised their roles in managing the crises and supporting rescue operations.

The President further reassured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security, revealing that the government is acquiring advanced equipment to enhance real-time tracking and neutralization of criminal elements.

He extended condolences to families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery, reaffirming federal support for both affected states.
