Police recover cutlasses and other weapons as suspects allegedly attack commercial motorcyclists and disrupt burial rites in Uromi, Edo State.

The Edo State Police Command has arrested 14 persons suspected of involvement in cult-related activities following an incident in which a corpse was allegedly hijacked in Uromi.

According to the police, the suspects attempted to prevent the burial of the deceased and also attacked two commercial motorcyclists, inflicting grievous injuries using dangerous weapons.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that police operatives swiftly intervened and restored order in the area.

During the operation, officers recovered eleven cutlasses, one dagger, one knife, and one shovel from the suspects.

The injured motorcyclists were taken to Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.

“The Command recorded a breakthrough in Uromi with the arrest of 14 male suspects, including Promise Oyido (18), Jude Usidebhosoh (38), Mutairu Alhaji (23), Samson Usidehofo (40), Collins Esaigbe (22), Osemudiamen Iyere (26), Christian Akhare (28), Evidence Osamare (28), and Joshua Augustine (25), among others,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the professionalism and synergy among police operatives and community security partners, assuring residents of the Command’s commitment to sustaining peace and security across the state.
