James Adio says the singer’s response to her 2021 ordeal inspired him to rise above public scrutiny and reclaim his future.
Former Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), James Adio, has opened up on how Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage’s resilience helped him cope with the fallout from a leaked private video.
Adio revealed that he drew inspiration from the award-winning singer’s handling of a similar situation in 2021, when her private video was leaked online, sparking widespread reactions and criticism. According to him, Tiwa Savage’s decision to continue her career despite the backlash gave him the courage to confront his own challenges.
He explained that rather than allowing the incident define him, he chose to focus on rebuilding and moving forward—an approach he said was influenced by the singer’s public stance.
Tiwa Savage had, in the aftermath of her own experience, spoken candidly about the emotional toll of the incident, describing herself as a victim of a violation of privacy. She emphasised the importance of resilience and refusing to be defined by such moments.
Adio’s remarks have since triggered conversations across social media, with many users highlighting the damaging effects of cyberbullying and the need for stronger support systems for victims of non-consensual sharing of intimate content.
The development has also reignited calls for increased awareness around digital privacy, mental health, and accountability in the online space.
