Haaland Scores Twice as Manchester City Beat Porto 2-0 in Champions League Opener

Erling Haaland scored in each half as Manchester City opened their 2026/27 UEFA Champions League campaign with a 2-0 victory over FC Porto at the Estádio do Dragão.

Manchester City made a winning start to their 2026/27 UEFA Champions League campaign on Tuesday, defeating FC Porto 2-0 at the Estádio do Dragão as Erling Haaland continued his impressive scoring run.

The Norwegian striker scored twice, including a stoppage-time goal, to give City a valuable away victory and maintain new manager Enzo Maresca’s perfect start to life at the club.

City had to work patiently against a determined Porto side, with the hosts making it difficult for the visitors to find clear openings during the first half.

The breakthrough eventually came shortly after the interval when Haaland rose to meet a cross from Enzo Fernández and headed the ball beyond the Porto goalkeeper to put City in front.

The goal gave City greater control of the contest, while Porto were forced to take more risks in search of an equaliser.

Haaland, however, had the final say.

Deep into stoppage time, Rayan Ait-Nouri delivered a cut-back into the danger area, allowing Haaland to finish clinically and put the result beyond doubt.

The brace took Haaland’s Manchester City goal tally to 167, further enhancing his status among the club’s all-time leading goalscorers.

The victory also extended Maresca’s flawless beginning as City manager. The club have now won all four of their competitive matches under the Italian coach, giving them an encouraging start to the new campaign.

For Porto, the defeat will be disappointing after a disciplined performance for much of the match, but City’s quality and Haaland’s finishing ultimately proved decisive.

Manchester City will now look to build on the result as their European campaign continues, while Haaland’s latest goals once again underline his importance to the club’s ambitions on the continental stage.
